My third year on BVNA council is now over and now is the time to reflect on my experiences and plan for the next year. My main role continues to be promoting equine veterinary nursing to the wider public and the nursing and veterinary profession. With over twenty three years experience working in equine medicine and surgery, I want to continue encouraging equine nurses to share their knowledge and skills with groups and organisations outside their own practices. In addition, the National Veterinary Nursing Week in November each year continues to grow on the success of previous years. Nurses from all over the country are getting involved with enthusiasm far beyond our expectations. Plans are now underway to make the next VN week for 2008 even bigger.

All veterinary nurses need support at some stage in their training and careers. I am just as passionate about professionalism and training as I am about the traditional aspects of nursing. Nurses are never too old or too experienced to serve patients, colleagues and clients with excellence and respect. I relish the chance to enrol on CPD courses and am privileged to live in a country that has much to choose from. At my first council meeting in 2004 I realised what a privilege it was to serve our organisation and work with such a vibrant and dynamic team of staff and Council members. We will strive collectively to see nursing respected as a profession by all our peers in the veterinary field.
