I was lucky enough to gain employment as a student VN at a small animal referral training practice in May 2000 where until I qualified in August 2004. I then moved to a somewhat quieter small animal practice.
Having the opportunity to make nursing count, as my new practice did not run nurse clinics nor have TP or PSS status, during my 7 years in this practice, I turned it into a nurse focused practice, gained TP status, worked on standards and embraced being an assessor then furthermore a clinical coach. Clients no longer just wanted to see the vet and knew nurses by names.
I took up locum work where I worked in an ECC OOH clinic and undertook some commercial work also. I furthermore complete examiner training and am now an active examiner.
Loving my role as a 'trainer' I worked towards my teaching qualification in my days off work and fast realised that my passion was teaching and demonstrating best practice, I wanted to give back everything I had learned. Now in my third FE College position as a course team leader, I try to encourage my students to make a difference, even in a small way.
