Industrial Relations Service

If you have any problems or questions in relation to employment and terms and conditions, telephone the Legal Help Line as mentioned above. If you feel you need any further clarification, assistance with writing letters to your employer or even representation at hearings or tribunals, you can then telephone the Industrial Relations Service and the Legal Help Line will provide the number to you.

The Industrial Relations Service is provided by a professional company who is speciailised in employment law. They are there to assist you Monday - Friday, 9.00am until 6.00pm every day.

Over the last twelve months, the Industrial Relations Service have spoken to over 100 BVNA members and in that time they have:-

  • Ensured that employees understand implications of changes to their terms and conditions made by their employers verbally and provided sufficient information for employees to discuss these further with employers to ensure that their rights are protected and that a fair agreement is reached.
  • Provided assistance and advice when BVNA members have been bullied by colleagues or even their employer to ensure that this is dealt with to the best of everybody's interest in the workplace.
  • Veterinary Nurses are often asked to work more hours than legally allowed because of out of hours rotas and weekend work. This is a regular query received by the Industrial Relations Service who can clarify the requirements in order for BVNA members to discuss this with their employers.
  • The Industrial Relations Service often receive questions from BVNA members who do not have an employment contact and are confused over their terms and conditions of employment. The IRS can clarify the situation.

The Industrial Relations Service is there to help you as a BVNA member and have over the last twelve months assisted in many BVNA members and their employers compromising and agreeing the right way forward as opposed to BVNA members having to attend grievance proceedings or to leave a job that they like.
