I started working at Pet Care Veterinary Surgery, Erith, Kent back in 2001 as a Trainee Veterinary Nurse. I enrolled at the College of Animal Welfare to study for my Animal Nursing Assisting qualification and once completed I went on to gain my NVQ qualifications.

My biggest hobby is horse riding; I have my own pony which I’ve had for 5 years. Her name is Twiglet and she is a 14.2h cross Arab mare.

Kent meeting on 20th May 2008 (Word document)

Meeting title: PROMOTING PET INSURANCE AND ADDING VALUE
Venue: Hadlow College, Hadlow, Kent
Date: 6th March 2008

BVNA’s Kent region held another meeting on the 6th March at Hadlow College. We had 22 delegates attend the evening seminar which was kindly sponsored by Pet Plan.

Our speaker Karen Raspin provided a very informative talk with a fantastic powerpoint presentation and a group workshop activity to finish.

Karen spoke about the types of insurance polices available and made us aware of which types there were and what they all meant and included. Karen also outlined great opportunities in practice to promote pet insurance, such as 1st vaccination or when registering new pets.

The delegates were given information of the FSA regulations, how this restricts us in what we can and can’t say to clients about new or existing policies dependant on the insurance company.

The workshop activity allowed us to highlight how practices had changed over the years. Also showed us what we can do to help our clients by being more flexible to individual client lifestyles. For example, late night appointments for clients that work late and early morning admissions for clients that start work early. It was interesting to see how different practices work and how each practice does things to add value.

A big thank you to Karen, Pet Plan and Hadlow College for making this evening a success.
