Hi,
Firstly, let me introduce myself, my name is Paula Quinn and I am delighted to have been appointed by the BVNA as your new Regional Co-ordinator!
I qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in December 2001. I was among the first group of trainee nurses to attend the Veterinary Nursing course in Northern Ireland. Prior to this, the nearest place for trainees in Northern Ireland was to travel to Scotland.
Enniskillen College of Agriculture was the course provider for the first year, and then our second year was relocated to Greenmount College of Agriculture in Antrim where the course is still provided, as I am sure you all know!
I work in a mixed practice in Dungannon where I am the only Qualified Nurse, though we have a very enthusiastic trainee nurse who hopes to go to Greenmount in October.
I have always had a great love of animals and grew up with dogs all my life. I suppose I like the fact that the animals seem to like me!
I currently own two greyhounds – Saskia & Ranger, a lurcher – Daisy, a German Short Haired Pointer – Rosie, a Collie/Lab cross – Sammy and a small terrier – Shiloh. All my dogs were rescue dogs and each has their own individual story. As well as that, I have two rabbits – Bluebelle & Tabitha, a guinea pig called Rodney, Maisie, Tiger-Lilly & Diego are my cats and Bella & Buffy are my goats!
Where do I find the time I hear you say??? Well, I have the support of my (long suffering!) husband, John and my two sons, Phillip aged 5 years and Matthew aged two-and-a-half years.
So, that’s the introduction over, I promise the next communication will be shorter!
I would appreciate any feedback on ideas you may have with regard to topics you would like covered in cpd meetings, any speakers you know who would be willing to talk at meetings and of course, any other suggestions you may have.
However, in the meantime, I have some interesting news regarding CPD, which can be done over the Internet in the comfort of your own home (or work). This is supplied by Idexx Laboratories and is an invitation only, free webinar for Idexx clients. (in-house tests, in-house analysers, reference laboratories - If you need to register, send an email to webinarsuk@idexx.com)
It is entitled, “ The 3 Minute Blood Smear – Evaluate your blood film in less than 3 minutes” and you also get a Certificate for attending. Sounds good! The next one is due to take place on 12th August at 5pm or 14th August at 8pm on the Internet. If you can supply me with your email address and your practice details, I will email all the details to you.
I look forward to hearing from you.
