Louisa Baker RVN MBVNA Louisa Baker

I have been veterinary nursing for over 14 Years in a mixed practice. I have learnt so much about veterinary medicine, animal behavior, practice management and veterinary nursing education. Over the past thirteen years I have become qualified in veterinary nursing and small correspondence courses on Nutrition, Insurance adviser, Equine science and animal behavior. I regularly attend CPD meetings and research on the internet for further information that will help with the daily requirements of veterinary nursing.

I have been abroad on voluntary neutering schemes to help reduce the breeding of feral cats and dogs in countries with over population problems. I regularly involve the practice in fund raising for our local animal charities and also small marathons for cancer research charities. My main area of interest is education for veterinary nurses. I became an assessor to help further my nurses' careers and help them with learning, training and practical experiences. I would like to continue training nurses and expand my knowledge and pass it on to others.

In April 2008 I was awarded Petplan 'Vet Nurse of the Year' for which I am truly honored.

Since being on the BVNA Council I have been involved in many aspects of the association, my main area is the Education Committee and VN week. I have been the Honorary Treasurer for the past two years. I'm looking forward to my new role as Vice President. Over the past year I have working on the new BVNA revision apps which launched at the 2011 BVNA congress. I will be continuing the BVNA app in many subjects. My aim is to provide Veterinary nurses with the upmost support through the BVNA.

BVNA keeps me very busy alongside my job as a head nurse to two practices, my husband Dean, 5 year old son Finley and my TB cross Hackney horse 'Fred'.
