Professional Indemnity Insurance Update

BVNA President, Bonny Millar continues to keep strong relations with the Veterinary Defence Society (VDS) to ensure veterinary nurses are continually updated on legal issues and that the services offered to BVNA members are regularly reviewed.

Bonny advises "BVNA and the VDS are involved in ongoing discussions regarding the provision of professional indemnity insurance for RVNs and REVNs, and also insurance to cover the cost of legal representation for criminal and RCVS disciplinary investigations and hearings.  Currently, practices insured with VDS are covered for negligent acts by veterinary nurses and other support staff.  Generally this will also apply to other insurers but it would be advisable to check this with your employer.  It is likely that VDS will be able to provide criminal and disciplinary cover to RVNs by the time this is needed towards the end of 2010."
