I was a bit of a late starter when it came to Veterinary practice. I finally realised I wanted to work with animals after being a beautician and an estate agent. I have always loved animals and was totally addicted to any king of animal related programme on TV. In Oct 2006 I started as a trainee nurse in my home town of Doncaster and began my NVQ in 2007. After 2 years of assessments and portfolio I finally qualified as an RVN!
Since I started at the vets in 2006 I have not looked back. I enjoy everything to do with vet nursing. Since I qualified I also completed the Diabetes Advisor course, there is something about animal diabetes that I find very interesting and satisfying. I also have keen interest in medical nursing and Schedule 3 procedures.
I recently moved to Jersey as I felt I needed a change of practice and a change of culture. So far Jersey is proving to be very nice and the practice I am currently working at is a fairly new practice and mobile service. I have become the head nurse here so am learning new responsibilities and routines.
I feel that Jersey and the other Channel Islands don't have enough CPD so hopefully by taking on this role with the BVNA I can help change that.
