Review for Kent Regional Meetings
MRSA | Louise O'Dwyer | 1st March 2012
On March 1st Louise O'Dwyer drove from Manchester down to Kent to speak to our members about MRSA, this talk was very kindly sponsored by Ethicon & Invicta Animal Health, both companies came along and spoke to the nurses distributing leaflets and samples which were very much appreciated.
Louise gave a very informative talk educating us all on MRSA, explaining how easy it is to not only contract but also spread MRSA.
A raffle was held in aid of The Retired Greyhound Trust and the sum of £15 was raised.
BVNA would like to thank Louise, the sponsors Ethicon & Invicta and also Hadlow College for making this talk possible.
Thanks also go to The Bella Moss Foundation for supplying us with information leaflets.
The topic of MRSA was a suggestion by a Kent BVNA member so if you are a Kent member and have any suggestions please pass them onto Donna as she will happily try to arrange a topic for you.

Diabetes Mellitus: Management And The Nurses Role | Canterbury College
To compliment Diabetes Awareness Month, on Wednesday November 16th almost 40 Kent nurses came along to Canterbury College to listen to Claire Pointing from MSD Animal Health to speak to us about Diabetes Mellitus.
It was a very interesting talk and delivered to us with the fun factor making the evening a very enjoyable one, Claire was a wonderful speaker, very in tune with the Veterinary Nurse, she gave us lots of valuable tips not to mention:-
Did you know that Diabetic Dogs get Cataracts yet Cats do not?
Overweight cats are pre-disposed to getting DM yet overweight dogs are not.
At the time of writing this there is a Diabetic Russian Blue needing a home at a practice in Kent so if you would be interested in homing this much needy furry friend please email me donnaleighlewis@hotmail.com and I will put you in touch with the practice that has the cat at the moment.
I held a raffle and we raised £25 in aid of the Cinnamon Trust - BVNA Charity of the year so thank you to all those that purchased a ticket.
On the behalf of The BVNA, myself, and all the nurses in Kent, I would like to thank Claire and MSD Animal Health for coming along and speaking to us, and, Canterbury College for having us once again.
