After leaving school, I went to Myerscough Agricultural College and completed the BTEC First Diploma in Animal Care. As I finished this course I was lucky to be offered a student Veterinary Nursing position at a  first opinion mixed practice on the outskirts of Preston. Twelve years on I am still there, during which time I have qualified as an RVN also at Myerscough College.
I am currently a mentor for the Animal Nursing Assistant course to students within our practice.  I am thrilled to be able to train the students so that they can pursue to the next level of being a RVN!
I work in a very busy practice, the best bit about my job is that I always seem to learn something new everyday, and no two days are ever the same. I love the excitement of starting work not knowing what the day will bring!
My particular interests are exotics, especially rabbits and tortoises. I feel very strongly about raising awareness of rabbit welfare, as I feel they are misunderstood by owners.
In my spare time, my border collie who is now 7 years old loves to take me for long walks, find the nearest brook and get as muddy as she can! When I finally get chance to rest, I can relax with my cat and menagerie of animals including three tortoises!
I'm always keen to learn more, I research into books and the internet regularly to keep myself up to date with recent Veterinary progression and attend as many CPD courses I can to maintain my competence and improve my standard of service to my patients and clients. It also counts towards my CPD record card.
I can't wait for my challenge as BVNA North West RCO. I have enjoyed myself very much at BVNA congresses and regional meetings I have previously attended. I want to bring quality CPD and new and imaginative lectures to the North West.

I would appreciate any ideas for future meetings. Just send me an e-mail.
I look forward to seeing you all soon.
Karen
