After my daughter, Hannah was born in 1997, I gave up my job as a riding instructor and took on a part-time job as a receptionist in a busy mixed practice, this fuelled my desire to train as a veterinary nurse and in 2000 I left my job and started a full-time course at Edinburgh’s Telford College.

After qualifying in October 2002, I worked in both small animal and mixed practices across Scotland and gained my D32/33 in February 2003. In May 2007, I applied for a new job as Head VN at a brand new practice just 5 minutes from my home. The first month of my job involved painting, decorating, filling shelves and hand delivering almost 1000 leaflets! The practice has grown and now has almost 1000 clients in less than a year and is turning into my ideal job.

Although I would say that I enjoy every aspect of veterinary nursing, but my particular interests would be small furries and dentistry. Training students was also one of my favourites and I’m pleased to say that all my students have gone on to gain their VN status. Hopefully the new practice will become a TP soon.

I live right in the centre of Scotland, with my partner Graham, a vet, Hannah, 2 dogs (Bonnie & Cher), 2 cats (Sonny & Blossom) & 3 budgies (I’m sure Hannah would be able to tell you their names but I call them by their colours). Outside of work, I enjoy cooking & baking, walking the dogs, reading and music.
