My name is Kate King I started nursing straight from leaving school in 1988 at only 16 years old, I trained at a small animal Hospital in Bournemouth and studied at Kingston Maurward College in Dorchester. After passing my final exams in 1991 I moved to Kent were I became Deputy Head Nurse in a large mixed practice in Maidstone and then Head Nurse of a large veterinary group in Rochester Kent, where I spent the next 5 years. In 1999 I took a short career break to start a family.  After returning to work in 2003 for a friend, part time, my husband got relocated to work in Bristol and we moved to Somerset in 2006. I have been working as a Registered Veterinary Nurse for the same practice in Ilminster for the last 4 and a half years.

I have a keen interest in Laboratory techniques much to the delight of my colleagues and often visit local schools and groups promoting Animal care. I have also recently undertaken my assessor training and enjoy being a mentor to our trainee nurses.

After A long career in nursing I decided to apply for the RCO position for the South West, where I hope I can continue Carrie Cook's role promoting the BVNA and providing relevant and affordable CPD to the South West VNs and practice staff. I hope to be organising a CPD evening within the next few months and would appreciate any ideas for future meetings and venues, please feel free to contact me at katieking@hotmail.co.uk
