In 1995, after leaving school I worked at a small animal practice in Shrewsbury, during this time I completed a two year block release course at Myerscough Agricultural College.  I was a Student Veterinary Nurse from 1996 and after two years I qualified as a Veterinary Nurse.  In 1998 I also gained my D32/33 Assessor qualification.

In 2000 I left the practice to work at the RSPCA Hospital in Birmingham for six weeks before moving on to a small animal practice in Wolverhampton.  I was a Senior Veterinary Nurse and largely involved as an Assessor for the NVQ syllabus.   After 14 months I returned to my training practice in January 2002, and it felt like I had never been away.  They expanded and opened a Tier 3 hospital in 2005.

In September 2008 I returned to Myerscough Agricultural College as a mature student! I attained the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Advanced Diploma in Veterinary Nursing in January this year and was presented with the award in July at the RCVS ceremony in London.  To attain this award I had first to complete the Higher Education Diploma in Clinical Veterinary Nursing and undertake a seventh module, the Integrative Project, to attain the DipAVN.  During this time I was Head of Nursing at the Shrewsbury Pet Hospital and thoroughly enjoyed working along specialists in ophthalmology, cardiology, orthopaedics and hydrotherapy.  Earlier this year I decided to leave after 14 years, and I continued to work as an RVN at a local practice in Shrewsbury.

Recently I took the plunge and after 16 years in the veterinary profession I needed a new challenge.  I now work at Harper Adams University College as a Veterinary Nursing Teaching Assistant, which I am thoroughly enjoying.  I still work in practice one weekend of every month too, at The Animal Health Centre in Shrewsbury.

After gaining my Diploma in AVN I had the opportunity to top up and complete a BSc (Hons) in Clinical Veterinary Nursing.  I am due to graduate in July 2012.

When I am not working or studying I am kept very busy at home by my two lovely boys ‘William' and ‘Louis'.  I am married to Ian and we are celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary in October.  We also have two cats too- Frankie and Chewy.  I enjoy travelling abroad with my family and always look forward to the next holiday!

I am thrilled to be the new BVNA Rco for the Welshpool region and look forward to the challenge.  You can contact me by email or phone anytime; I would love to hear your suggestions on any CPD events you would like to see.  I look forward to meeting you all very soon.
