Speaker - Laura Rosewell  BSc(Hons) DipAVN(Small Animal) ISFMDipFN VTS(SAIM) RVN

Laura qualified as an RVN in 2010, gained the DipAVN in 2014 and graduated from Harper Adams University with a top-up degree in Advanced Veterinary Nursing in 2017. After working in various small animal first-opinion, referral and out-of-hours centres, Laura joined the team at The Ralph Veterinary Referral Centre in January 2019, where her include all aspects of internal medicine, feline medicine, and emergency & critical care. Laura became a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine in 2019.


Chair - Kim Rathbone RVN

Kim Rathbone RVN qualified in 2012 and has worked in both referral and first opinion practice, since qualifying she has gained a keen interest in setting up and running nurse clinics. Kim also enjoys dermatology, diagnostic imaging, in patient care and ECC. In April 2020 she started the Vets Now Emergency and Critical Care Certificate in order to further develop her skillset and knowledge. In her spare time she enjoys swimming, reading, walking and socialising with friends. She also has two greedy guinea pigs called Neville and Rodney who are 3 years old now and very pampered.

Lecture Synopsis:

This session will break down the different calculations used in practice, including calculating and administering different medications and both simple and complex constant rate infusions, different nutritional calculations, fluid therapy calculations and much more.

Learning Points:

  • Knowledge of how to calculate and administer fluid therapy for both hypovolaemia and dehydration correction
  • Knowledge of how to calculate electrolyte and glucose supplementation within fluid therapy
  • Knowledge of how to calculate, prepare and administer constant rate infusions
